The city Department of Transportation said it wrapped up this weekend's planned construction to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway a whole day ahead of schedule.
On Sunday, the agency said it fully reopened the Queens-bound section of the highway in Brooklyn Heights, which was scheduled to be closed until early Monday morning.
“I am proud of all the dedicated employees and crew members who worked around the clock to make repairs to the BQE and completed the work ahead of schedule,” DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said in a statement. “Closing a major highway for repairs is always difficult, but I am pleased that we could make necessary repairs while minimizing disruptions to the surrounding community.”
The agency previously said the repairs, which included new concrete and reinforcing steel bars, were crucial to the longevity of the ailing structure. There are no other planned closures for repairs on the BQE for the rest of the year.
